Lithe and graceful

“With Ashtani grace” is a saying used all over Caldera, and one born from truth. Whilst other mortal races saunter across Caldera, the Ashtani practically glide.

Ever curious

Many Ashtani take to the wider world just for curiosity’s sake; “what’s around that next hill?” can quickly turn into “I wonder what’s over that ocean!” This natural curiosity isn’t confined to geological expeditions either, the Ashtani are known to explore the boundaries of physical, mental and spiritual pursuits as well.

Proud and prejudiced

The Ashtani are a proud people, quietly believing themselves to be more developed than the other races. In their minds they are stronger and sharper. Ashtani are often decisive, taking what they want with little regard for the feelings of others. Others may take this as rude, or even dangerous, but the Ashtani don’t value ownership like the other races – there are few physical things they really care for, and they therefore don’t understand or appreciate the attachment that others place in objects. Instead, Ashtani place value in their tribe, their friends and their families.

Tribal warfare

The notion of a ‘nation state’ where a single ruler holds sway over large groups of subjects is fairly new to the Ashtani. Previously, they lived in extended tribes with vague territorial boundaries. One-hundred and twenty years ago however, inspired by the kingdoms of the other mortal races, the Kalim tribe brought many others into their own. They did this either by force or negotiation, and the process wasn’t always pretty, but the Ashtani have flourised since then, forming a great capital in Azera. Many tribes still staunchly hold onto their independence however, and they eschew the cities in favour of the wide open savannah.
